Herbal Beginnings and Martial Arts

My journey into the world of Western herbalism started when I was just 15 years old. Throughout college, I found myself using medicinal herbs to support my friends and myself through various health challenges. That's not all – my college years also marked the beginning of my martial arts training. In one of my initial classes (which marked the start of a 25-year practice), I unfortunately experienced a significant injury that changed my life's course. Recognizing the need for assistance, I turned to acupuncture for treatment. It was during this pivotal moment of transformation that my life took a new and profound direction.

Education and Specializations

Upon finishing my bachelor's degree in psychology and women's studies, I enrolled in Chinese medicine school. My goal was clear: to learn from the very best in the field through apprenticeship and working my way towards becoming a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM), thus earning specializations backed by the highest degree of education in the field (the DAOM is akin to a PhD), with specializations in women's health, fertility enhancement, and pain management.

Located in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz, my practice focuses on these specializations. It is so rewarding to work with patients who may not have any other avenue towards health, seeing people with Women's Health and Fertility challenges in addition to those plagued by Acute and Chronic Pain improve.

As a skilled clinician, researcher, and author, not only do I hold the highest accredited degree available in my field, the DAOM. I have been teaching the fertility specialization in the DAOM at Five Branches University for well over a decade. I have won awards both close to home and from other states for my work teaching students in this amazing doctoral degree.

I hold a terminal doctorate unlike other “professional doctorates” in my profession such as the DTCM, DACM, DAc, MAc, and so on. This can be very confusing for patients looking to assess a practitioner’s level of education. Only the DAOM requires a doctoral thesis and research. In this vein, the DAOM is akin to a Ph.D., in that it is the highest level of nationally accredited education available in this field.

I am proud to share that I am the first female Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine to become a Board Certified Fertility Acupuncturist in the country!

My commitment to spreading knowledge has been a thread throughout my career. I have been teaching at the introductory level for over 20 years and at the DAOM for almost 15 years. I have taught at different schools and have been a sought-after lecturer in topics such as cannabis and fertility, integrative fertility treatment, and more. In addition, I just began educating licensed acupuncturists through the online platform, Net of Knowledge.

I continue to educate licensed acupuncturists in this country and throughout the world in this internationally recognized platform.
